My fitness journey traces back to when I was a kid. I grew up playing sports, mostly basketball and baseball. I was involved in working out and conditioning to help aid my performance. I even took part in swimming and cross country to build endurance. In college, when my athletic career was coming to an end, I started lifting weights full time with mostly bodybuilding style workouts. Because of my competitive nature, I entered a few body building shows, winning my first and finishing average in the others. The grind of body building took its toll on me. It was a yo-yo of eating everything in sight to gain mass, dieting for months to get lean just for one appearance, then, bulking back up again. I realized this was not a healthy lifestyle!

In 2010 I got my CrossFit Level 1 Cert. At the time I was still doing bodybuilding style workouts and was relatively unfamiliar with CrossFit. I did my first “WOD” at the Cert (Fran) and was instantly hooked. I wanted to learn as much about this style of training and adopt as many skills as I could. One thing I have learned is how surprised people are when they realize the results they can achieve by putting forth a little effort.

I quickly adopted the “Paleo” way of eating when I realized how much what I eat can affect my performance. My philosophy on diet has changed by basing my eating on how the food makes me feel rather than how it tastes.

My life has changed, not only in the gym but outside as well. The best part of my job is that I have the chance to further my fitness journey, and I also have the opportunity to help others do the same.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

“I started CrossFit in September 2010. Sure, I was intimidated, apprehensive, you name it, but I was determined to try something new. I had spent hours on the treadmill and attempted to “lift” in the regular gym, but did not have any idea what I was doing and was not making any progress with my weight, my fitness level, or anything.”
“Working out with Shea has been an incredible experience. I have learned to do things I never imagined I could do – small things like a push-up and even lifting weights! This may seem like nothing to some people, but they were huge for me and gave me a new level of confidence I have never had. Now I can do multiple push-ups, pull-ups, and lift more weight than I ever thought I could! I’ve got muscles in places I’ve never had, and I continue to work on getting stronger each time I’m in class.”
“Not only is it a great workout, we also have a great fitness family! We challenge and support each other to do more and get stronger each time we come together. Shea is a great trainer and he is always there to make sure we do things the right way, avoiding injuries and pushing us into getting strong!”
“I am still a “work in progress”, and still want to do more, lift more, and be stronger! These workouts give me the motivation and the desire to do all of that. It is something anyone can do. It’s fun, it’s always different, always challenging, and IT WORKS!! – Jan S.”
